A bunch of studies I've been doing throughout the week. I was trying out the Trim-border Smooth to create a rocky like surface. I can see how it will be quite useful for a few things.

Finished the shield. I don't like how the wood turns out and I think that was because the sculpt wasn't good. Tried to fix it up during the texturing the process but no go. This was my first time texturing with DDO so not quite comfortable yet.

1 Hour rock study.

More progress on the shield. I'm going to mirror some elements of it so I only sculpt half. Going to finish sculpting and hopefully bake everything out by tomorrow. Then Wednesday will just be texturing.



Still playing around with the block out stage of the GW project. I'm thinking of adding a hanging lantern by the front of the door and possibly vines going up the wall. Going to finalize everything that I want to add in by tomorrow and move on to modelling.

I'm doing the shield from 3DMotive tutorial. Finish modelling the low-poly and brought it into Zbrush. Going to sculpt it then texture using NDO2 + DDO. This will be the first time I use DDO so I'm quite excited to learn more about it. Going to try and finish this whole thing hopefully by Wednesday.

Meanwhile I'm gathered up references for the ArenaNet Art Test project.Grab a bunch of screenshots online and also other art test done by talented artists for inspiration.


I started with the block-out just to get the right proportion and shapes. I still want to figure out what sort of extra elements I want to add to the concept before moving forward.

Finals are done and the folks are gone so it's time to get back to some art!
Here are the final for one of my class and reference. Looking back I probably should have chose something that I could find multiple references picture of. Also the cloth looks terrible =/



I went back to try and fix up the sci-fi floor spec map following PhillipK's tutorial. I tried to darken the other area where there were dust and rust. I also brighten up the scratches so it would catch the light. Doing a proper spec map is actually quite hard and I will need to do a lot more until I get a hang of it.



I'm going to move on to the next 3DMotive tutorial and starts on the AreanaNet environment art test as well.
